New web tool gives employers access to skills and employment help at the click of a mouse

NEW WEB TOOL GIVES EMPLOYERS ACCESS TO SKILLS AND EMPLOYMENT HELP AT THE CLICK OF A MOUSE

Employers can now get more comprehensive, practical help and information to boost the skills of their workforce than ever before, thanks to the launch of a new online tool, talentmapTM .

talentmapTM is a framework designed to help UK employers plan more effectively by providing a single view of the entire education, talent and skills landscape in clear, simple language.

An associated online tool helps employers and their advisers to navigate the maze of education, employment and skills systems across the UK to swiftly find the publicly funded help and support they need.

talentmapTM is the brainchild of Sir Mike Rake, Chairman of BT PLC and the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, who has long argued that the UK’s education and skills systems need to be made simpler if employers are to reap maximum benefit from them. It has been developed with employers for employers, supported by the UK Commission and a broad coalition of partners including representatives from government and organisations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Sir Mike said:
“There is a huge amount of help and support available for employers, but unfortunately it’s not always easy to access. This new framework with its web resource helps ‘hide the wiring’ in the system a bit by enabling users to search the websites of virtually all publicly-funded organisations with an interest in education, employment and skills simultaneously.

“The aim is to help businesses improve their competitiveness through talent and skills. Thanks to talentmap, employers will be able to identify new ways to do this and will have the means to locate the support they need to put their plans into action.”

talentmapTM  uses state-of-the-art technology to interrogate and search around 100 education, employment and skills-related sites and ensure the most relevant information is returned to the user. The web-tool will continue to be developed with more sites being added into the search facility and progressively more on-line services, potentially including the ability to develop and share a bespoke training plan as well as the ability for business to share plans, best practice and ideas.
