NI Adviser's Role
UK Commissioner Role
Bill McGinnis Biography
UK Commissioner Role
As the Northern Ireland representative on the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, the Adviser represents Northern Ireland on the Commission, ensuring that it takes full account of Northern Ireland’s employment and skills issues and that UK policy and strategy reflect the particular needs of Northern Ireland and the considerations of devolution in that context.
The key elements of the role are to:
ensure that Northern Ireland’s interests are represented on the Commission when UK policy proposals and projects are being considered;
play a key role in the performance management of the Sector Skills Councils;
ensure that NI’s interests are included within the Commission research programme and jointly commission research with the Commission which adds to the existing evidence base;
develop linkages with other National Commissioners to ensure a UK wide focus and to share best practice; and
chair and/or contribute to sub-committees on specific areas that will achieve progress towards world-class employment and skills policies.
